Stumbling upon Apoy was a happy accident while waiting for our table to be ready at Revival. I’ve been wanting to try Filipino food for a while and the hungrier we got while waiting, the harder it was to turn down the appetizers the bartender kept tempting us with. WIth Apoy firmly on the top of our list of new places to try, I was super excited when I learned about their Thursday night Kamayans and booked one immediately.
Snacks
Hi-Lo Diner | Minneapolis
StandardI made forage #2 into East Lake Street dining – this time for brunch! Hi-Lo Diner is an original Fodero Dining Car that started it’s long life in Pennsylvania in 1957 and since 2015 has called Minnesota home when it was adopted by it’s current loving owners.
Revival Restaurant | Minneapolis
StandardRevival Restaurant in Minneapolis is 1.2 miles away from my apartment. It is literally only 6336 feet away and it has taken me a year and a half to finally eat there. I cannot even count how many times I’ve heard this restaurant referenced and I am baffled that I did not realize how close it really was!
Revival’s menu is southern cuisine to it’s core and it’s crowning jewel is fried chicken.
Sonora Grill | Minneapolis
StandardTacos are the ultimate “safe place” when it comes to stepping out of your comfort zone. Hundreds of different ingredients and unique flavor profiles start with the simple magic of a hand held corn tortilla.
I first started this blog as a way to keep myself motivated to try new places, but I can honestly say I wasn’t very adventurous with my food choices until I became addicted to tacos. They are small enough that you feel completely comfortable trying out a new flavor, because it’s basically sacrilege to only have one anyway!
For Taco Tuesday I’m going to be gushing over Sonora Grill Minneapolis so I recommend not reading this on an empty stomach.
Sonora Grill first started in the Midtown Global Market and serve up a variety of “Scratch America and Spanish infusion cuisine.”
Pat’s Tap Gastropub | Minneapolis
StandardI am a Pat’s Tap Gastropub regular and have been for years, but now, living a mere 4 blocks from there, it’s my go-to suggestion for anyone who wants to meet me out.
This Hipster Hack is not going to give it justice, because I have been there a LOT and it’s only reflecting one meal, but not having one up about this place just felt wrong!
The Howe Daily Kitchen and Bar | Minneapolis
StandardSunday Brunch is a right of passage for every #BasicBitch. Full of libations, carb loading, and morning after stories, Sunday Brunch is a tradition that begins at 21 and (if you do it correctly) continues until the end of time.
For my first Sunday Brunch of 2019 I decided to revisit a place I had checked out for the first time this summer: The Howe Daily Kitchen & Bar in South Minneapolis. Upon arrival my Brunch-mate took one look and proclaimed, “this is the type of place I’d expect you to choose.” If that’s not a high note of praise for The Howe then I don’t know what is haha.
Pryes Brewing Company | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardOn our recent crawl around Northeast we made it a point to cross the river and finally visit Pryes Brewing Company.
This Brewery/taproom is beautiful. I know that it’s pretty typical at this point for breweries to be popping up in warehouses with high ceilings and lots of exposed metal tops, but there was just something a little extra that I can’t exactly define that set this place above the rest.

La Doña Cerveceria | Minneapolis Brewery
StandardI’ve been stalking the opening of La Doña Cerveceria all summer so when they announced their Grand Opening a couple weekends ago I was ready.
La Doña Cerveceria’s mission is “to celebrate the vibrancy, breadth and depth of Latino and Minnesotan culture through superior product and customer experience as a fully operational brewery and community/event center, while raising awareness of and providing support to social, economic, and environmental issues that impact us all.”
Their space definitely does that.
Twin Spirits Distillery | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardTwin Spirits Distillery was a cute place I had never heard about before friends suggested it during our Northeast alcohol crawl celebrating my Birthday. At first I was a little concerned as we went what felt like the wrong way down Central Avenue to get to it, but the moment we arrived and I saw the cute outdoor space I was in love.

Centro At Popol Vuh | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardLet me just preface this with how excited I am that finally someone was smart enough to open up a restaurant close to Indeed Brewing Company and Able Seedhouse + Brewery. While food trucks are a brewery staple, it just did not make sense that there was this whole area of Northeast without viable food options. With that I would like to say thank you to Centro @ Popol Vuh for being smart enough to join the neighborhood and for being open in time for my birthday celebration!
