Saint Paul Farmers Market – Downtown

The great part about the Saint Paul Farmers Market is that it’s open on Sundays. While I love the Northeast Farmers Market summer Saturdays in Minnesota are jam packed while Sundays are generally more free. Not to mention the farmers market is the perfect “productive” hungover activity; food, music, and you can say you’re doing something outdoors. Or in our case it was the perfect reason to meet up for brunch!

Farmers Markets are great for a variety of reasons; price, freshness, and you’re supporting the local farmers. I love buying vegetables here, because you get so many at such a great rate. It’s almost impossible for me to get through all of it before it starts to go bad!

There are also some meat areas (which seemed a little risky to me, unless you were planning on leaving right away).

And of course, being the Midwest there had to be a cheese curds station. My favorite was seeing that they sell milk in glass bottles. Total throwback.

While it was Father’s Day, I did abstained from buying any of the gorgeous flowers, because my dad, like myself, doesn’t exactly possess a green thumb.

There was also live music and some craft stations as well.

Parking:

The Saint Paul Farmer’s Market is located on the corner of Wall & 5th Street. Literally right next to the new Saints Stadium. While the location is great for walking as it’s only a couple blocks from Mears Park it is not great for Parking.

There was a lot right next to the market that was charging $20, which is ridiculous considering street parking in St. Paul is not metered on Sundays. If you’re ok with a 5 minute walk I would suggest parking on the other side of Mears Park. There’s a nice little parking strip on the corner of Sibley and 5th that I like to park in, because there is usually a spot and you don’t have to worry about your parallel skills. Bonus.

Other Travel Options:

A couple other travel options are of course the Greenline Light Rail and Bus. You can get a Free Metro Transit Pass that’s valid from 5am-2pm on the day of the Saint Paul Farmers Market on their website HERE.

Overall, if you’re looking for something interesting to do on a Sunday morning, this is your place.

John’s Pizza Cafe | St. Paul

John’s Pizza Cafe is my ultimate positive reinforcement.  Before moving to Northeast I was a 5 year resident of St. Paul and customer of John’s. While I’ve never actually eaten at the store, I have been in there enough for takeout that I can assure you it has the pizza parlor vibe you’d expect; booths, pizza smell, and frosted red cups. Allow me to introduce you to Bite Squad! If you live in the cities and love trying new food from the comfort of your own home, you should know about this service.

Gone are the days of delivery only being Chinese or pizza (and I don’t just mean Burger King), now you can have food delivered from basically any restaurant who offers take-out as long as you live in the one of the following cities: Minneapolis/St. Paul, Seattle, Las Vegas, Miami, or Austin.

*Fun Fact: Minneapolis is the OG of Bite Squad

Espresso Royale

Espresso Royale can best be described as my Saint Paul safe place. Located across the street from St. Kate’s in Highland Park, it was walking distance from my old apartment and continues to be the place I go on days when I just need a quiet place to meet prospective clients or to quarantine myself from distractions.

This coffee shop is one of the best kept secrets of Saint Paul and I feel like publicizing it’s existence is my good deed of the year, mostly, because it means sacrificing what makes this coffee shop my favorite; the space. While it’s never empty, it’s also extremely rare that you won’t find an open table where you can drink your coffee and dig into whatever project you’re working on, be it a spreadsheet, homework assignment, or a blog post… Continue reading

The Bulldog – Lowertown vs. Northeast

Both Bulldog locations (Lowertown and Northeast) are amazing. They both have different menus and from what I understand aren’t fully owned by the same people, but I’m going to review them together just the same.

*The pictures below come from my most recent visit to the Lowertown location.

It all starts with parking. Both places can be a little bit of a challenge.

Lowertown: It’s street parking. I, generally, park in the lot on Sibley and 7th. It’s free to park there after 5pm (or 6pm?) and you don’t have to worry about parallel parking. BONUS.

Northeast: There is street parking here as well, but they do have a couple of lot options which are really nice. One is in the U.S. Bank lot and the other is in front of Gorkha Palace. Continue reading
