Adelita’s Mexican Restaurant | Northeast Minneapolis

Adelita's Mexican Restaurant
Standard

Adelita’s Mexican Restaurant is only a mile from my house? This is going to get dangerous.

Food:

Chimichanga

The Adelita’s menu was full of all my favorite things, so I couldn’t make up my mind. At the waitresses suggestion I ordered the chicken chimichanga, which was absolute perfection.

To be fair, I am from Minnesota where deep-fried everything reigns supreme (Minnesota State Fair), but I, honestly, don’t know what’s not to like about a deep fried burrito filled with beans, rice, and everything nice! Continue reading

This hack for El Taco Riendo is extremely over due, considering I mentioned it months ago, for those of you who are loyal subscribers (Thanks, Mom) you may remember that El Taco Riendo was the place I ordered from using the delivery service, Bite Squad, but for those of you who don’t you can read it HERE. Diamonds Coffee Shoppe | Northeast Minneapolis

Diamonds Coffee Shoppe
Standard

For the last two months I’ve been working from home. Anyone who has experienced the work-from-home lifestyle can probably confirm that coffee shops become your saving grace, because they give you a reason to put on pants and be among people….there’s also the free wifi.

At the suggestions of my friend and NE aficionado, Kelly, I decided that today was a good day to check out Diamonds Coffee Shoppe.

Atmosphere:

Diamonds Coffee Shoppe is located in an old warehouse and is full of nooks and crannies. It can be best described as a maze (or Narnia, depending what you’re into). It’s pretty eclectic with a wide range of personalities. In the last hour I’ve seen retirees enjoying a cup of coffee, a mom with her children desperately trying to keep them entertained, a group of college students working on a project, quite a few people reading books on the couches, and other people like myself, vigoriously typing away on their laptops. Betty Danger’s Country Club | Northeast Minneapolis

Betty Danger's Country Club
Standard

The newest of the Psycho Suzi’s restaurant family (you can read the whole entertaining, “family history” HERE), is Betty Danger’s Country Club.

“A country club for the 99%. No membership required.”

I’m a firm believer in adding alcohol to my favorite childhood activities; hopscotch into a drinking game? Yep. Drinking wine in a fort? Check. And now, because of Betty Danger’s, you can ride a ferris wheel at a bar in the middle of a city…while drinking. Continue reading

Hell’s Kitchen Minneapolis | Downtown

Hell's Kitchen Minneapolis

After a vain attempt of going to Hell’s Kitchen brunch last year without a reservation, I was finally able to make it there for dinner to celebrate my friend, Mikayla’s Birthday, with some amazing ladies!

Service:

I usually end a hack by talking about service, but in this case I think the service is a big part of what makes Hell’s Kitchen, Hell’s Kitchen. The vibe here is a mixture between the artsy kids in High School you wanted to be friends with and the pretentious lifestyle snob. For example, the host didn’t appear as if he even had the time of day for me to point me in the direction of where my friends were seated, but our waitress had an infectiously upbeat vibe, and the bussers were completely on their game. Eat Street Social | Minneapolis

Recently two of my favorites, Brad & Lisa, decided to make their relationship legal so our friend, Nicole, organized an engagement party for them at Eat Street Social. Nicole had a pretty hard time finding a restaurant that could accommodate our party of 20, so when she called Eat Street she was extremely pleased that the manager, Jaren, not only went above and beyond to help us make this engagement party a possibility, but also organized our use of “The Torpedo Room,” event space.

Art-A-Whirl 2015

Art-A-Whirl 2015
Standard

One of the reasons I decided Northeast was where I wanted to live was the vibrant art scene and for that reason, I am excited to share that Art-A-Whirl 2015 is almost here!

Art-A-Whirl 2015

In case you missed it, Northeast Minneapolis was named the Best Art District by USA Today in their 10Best Reader’s Choice poll a couple months ago. It’s Organizations like NEMAA and events like their annual Art-A-Whirl that have helped to shed the light on this great art community.

Art-A-Whirl 2015 is the 20th year of Art-A-Whirl and it’s happening May 15 – 17 in NE Minneapolis (obviously).

There will be over 500 NEMAA Members displaying their artwork in over 50 locations throughout Northeast; studio buildings, art galleries, home studios, and local businesses who show their support by showcasing local artists. Continue reading

Open Streets MPLS

Open Streets MPLS

Open Streets MPLS announced their 2015 schedule and although I know it’s extremely early, especially since we just got dumped on with a random snow storm, I need reminders like this to realize that spring, is in fact, here.

Open Streets MPLS is the brainchild of the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition and was organized with the intent of allowing the people of Minneapolis to experience their city on non-motorized wheels.

If you don’t have a bike this would be a great time to check out the Nice Ride MN program, or participate the old fashioned way; on foot. Continue reading

The Lowry Uptown | Minneapolis

The Lowry Uptown

Lisa and I experienced The Lowry Uptown for the first time, because it was chosen by our friend, Heather, as our last Happy Hour destination before she made the move out of unpredictable Minnesota weather into sunny California.

I know what you’re thinking, and no, I’m not bitter at all about her move, just extremely happy for her…ok, maybe like 28% bitter, but the rest of it is happy. I swear! Continue reading
