St. Anthony Main Theatre | Northeast Minneapolis

St. Anthony Main Theatre
Standard

St. Anthony Main Theatre is the Northeast choice for film festivals and artsy movie screenings. The historical site has a loyal local following and a great vantage point of the river. It’s also been recently renovated.

Movies:

While they do play blockbusters, the great part about the St. Anthony Main Movie Theatre is that they show a lot of the “limited screenings” and they’re the home of the MSP Film Society and the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival.

You can get a list of the MSP Film Society Films and Events HERE. Continue reading

Indeed Brewing Company | Northeast Minneapolis

Indeed Brewing Company
Standard

Indeed Brewing Company is one of my favorites. I’ve now experienced it during every season and while patio weather is clearly the most ideal, especially since they have a pretty legit food truck line-up, it’s still a really fun place to be in the winter.

Drinks:

Indeed Brewing

I have a weakness for their seasonal varietals. Mexican Honey was by far my favorite, but I’m also a pretty big fan of the LSD which has a really intriguing Lavender component.

Last week I was privileged to get a tour from Indeed Bartender/Bouncer/Busser Extraordinaire, Ben Hering. The truly amazing thing about Indeed is how successful they’ve managed to be in such a short amount of time. They’ve really gotten their recipe and their distribution down and it was cool to get a behind the scenes look. Continue reading

Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market

northeast minneapolis farmers market
Standard

After weeks of attempting, I finally made it to the Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market this morning. The Farmers Market happens every Saturday from 9:00am to 1:00pm in the parking lot of the Saint Boniface Church off on the corner of University and 7th Avenue…conveniently across the street from Emily’s Lebanese Deli which you can get my review about next week!

I’m actually ashamed to admit that I’ve never been to a Farmers Market mostly because everyone else in my life seems to be obsessed with them and I feel like I could have been experiencing so much all these years.

Extremely cheap, fresh produce:

Seriously….extremely cheap. I got a box of green beans, 4 bell peppers, and an eggplant for $7.00. Continue reading

Somewhere In A Dark City : Vision The Kid & Tru

Standard

Vision The Kid & Tru released their new album, “Somewhere In A Dark City,” today and I’m definitely not mad about it. Being able to put in some headphones and blare this Midwest love story on repeat, is the ideal way to return to the office after a Labor Day weekend vacation.

A couple weeks ago the first single, “Devil” was released, and I have to say that this video was the best one, creatively, that I’ve seen produced by the Be Easy Music crew (although Lost Summer is still a personal favorite). Directed by Colin Kopp and featuring some stark white and black imagery, it gave the story a fresh perspective. Plus, a pyro at heart, who doesn’t love shit set on fire? Continue reading

GRRRL PRTY

Standard

The first time I attended a GRRRL PRTY was at Bastille Day. They are by far the best live act I’ve seen in quite some time. The swagger they emit is beyond believable.

Not only was their stage presence phenomenal, but they are all incredible lyricists as well. I have to admit that Lizzo is my favorite, but her rapping style is just insane and in the words of my friend who went up to her after the show to tell her so, “her moves are fantastic.”

Nice Ride Minnesota

Nice Ride MN App
Standard

Nice Ride Minnesota is this pretty legit bike rental program that’s available in the Twin Cities. Biking is a popular past time in Northeast as well as the most convenient and painless way for people to get around during one of the many festivals or outdoor activities happening during the, you know, 30 days of Minnesota sunshine.

The first thing I would suggest you do if you’re looking to rent a Nice Ride is to download the Nice Ride App. Not only does this app tell you how long you’ve been on the bike, which is very useful considering the first 30 minutes for non members are free, but it also tells you the availability of bikes and open slots at the stations near you. 331 Club | Northeast Minneapolis

331 Club
Standard

331 Club (if you want to fit in I strongly suggest that you pronounce it three-three-one and not three hundred and thirty one or three thirty one) is another NE Dive Bar gem. There is literally something happening every night; bands, trivia, or even an adult spelling bee.

Drinks:

If you’re looking for a Mixologist this is not the place. On the menu are PBR tall boys and strong mixed drinks.

Snacks:

Hummus and pitas. This is a staple that should be at every bar.

Music:

This is probably the most consistent place for free live music in Northeast. There is pretty much a set every night (minus Blingo, Trivia, Spelling Bee, etc). The bands range from hipster to folksy hipster and I wouldn’t be surprised if I was to hear an accordion. It’s massively loud inside though, so if you’re looking for a conversation I’d strongly suggest going out on the patio. Continue reading

The Vegas Lounge | Northeast Minneapolis

The Vegas Lounge
Standard

Cheap drinks, awkward encounters, and karaoke. The Vegas Lounge is the unnofficial capital of Northeast nightlife.

The vibe of this place does a total 180 shift at approximately 9pm. During the day this is a local haunt of older patrons and seasoned day drinkers. At night you can watch the slow shift as the townies get sparser and relocate closer to the door preparing for their escape from the infiltration and eventual swarm of the NE hipster army.

Karaoke:

northeast karaoke

The karaoke variety at Vegas is out of this world. Open 365 days a year this place is busy any night after 10pm. Continue reading

RAW Panorama At The Pourhouse

Standard

Last night I attended Raw Panorama at the Pourhouse in DT Minneapolis. I’d never heard of RAW before, but my friend Lisa was in charge of herding the models from the fashion show. She did SUCH an amazing job and I’m not complaining about being able to say “I’m on the list,” at the door… I don’t get to say that often.

RAW

So basically, RAW is an underground indie artist movement and this show had a bunch of musical acts, including some Mexican artist who was like the Minnesota Selena and backed by 5 guys wearing shiny silver pants (legit), a fashion show, and a magician front of house who did this insane paintball “catch” with his teeth- see video here: Continue reading
