As the winner of the 2015 City Pages Best Karaoke Bar, The 1029 Bar located in Northeast Minneapolis, is a no brainer. They host karaoke every Wednesday – Sunday from 9pm until close and their song selection is pretty eclectic…just like the clientele. Continue reading

Saint Paul Farmers Market – Downtown
StandardThe great part about the Saint Paul Farmers Market is that it’s open on Sundays. While I love the Northeast Farmers Market summer Saturdays in Minnesota are jam packed while Sundays are generally more free. Not to mention the farmers market is the perfect “productive” hungover activity; food, music, and you can say you’re doing something outdoors. Or in our case it was the perfect reason to meet up for brunch!
Farmers Markets are great for a variety of reasons; price, freshness, and you’re supporting the local farmers. I love buying vegetables here, because you get so many at such a great rate. It’s almost impossible for me to get through all of it before it starts to go bad!
There are also some meat areas (which seemed a little risky to me, unless you were planning on leaving right away).
And of course, being the Midwest there had to be a cheese curds station. My favorite was seeing that they sell milk in glass bottles. Total throwback.
While it was Father’s Day, I did abstained from buying any of the gorgeous flowers, because my dad, like myself, doesn’t exactly possess a green thumb.
There was also live music and some craft stations as well.
Parking:
The Saint Paul Farmer’s Market is located on the corner of Wall & 5th Street. Literally right next to the new Saints Stadium. While the location is great for walking as it’s only a couple blocks from Mears Park it is not great for Parking.
There was a lot right next to the market that was charging $20, which is ridiculous considering street parking in St. Paul is not metered on Sundays. If you’re ok with a 5 minute walk I would suggest parking on the other side of Mears Park. There’s a nice little parking strip on the corner of Sibley and 5th that I like to park in, because there is usually a spot and you don’t have to worry about your parallel skills. Bonus.
Other Travel Options:
A couple other travel options are of course the Greenline Light Rail and Bus. You can get a Free Metro Transit Pass that’s valid from 5am-2pm on the day of the Saint Paul Farmers Market on their website HERE.
Overall, if you’re looking for something interesting to do on a Sunday morning, this is your place.

Betty Danger’s Country Club | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardThe newest of the Psycho Suzi’s restaurant family (you can read the whole entertaining, “family history” HERE), is Betty Danger’s Country Club.
“A country club for the 99%. No membership required.”
I’m a firm believer in adding alcohol to my favorite childhood activities; hopscotch into a drinking game? Yep. Drinking wine in a fort? Check. And now, because of Betty Danger’s, you can ride a ferris wheel at a bar in the middle of a city…while drinking. Continue reading
Art-A-Whirl 2015
StandardOne of the reasons I decided Northeast was where I wanted to live was the vibrant art scene and for that reason, I am excited to share that Art-A-Whirl 2015 is almost here!
In case you missed it, Northeast Minneapolis was named the Best Art District by USA Today in their 10Best Reader’s Choice poll a couple months ago. It’s Organizations like NEMAA and events like their annual Art-A-Whirl that have helped to shed the light on this great art community.
Art-A-Whirl 2015 is the 20th year of Art-A-Whirl and it’s happening May 15 – 17 in NE Minneapolis (obviously).
There will be over 500 NEMAA Members displaying their artwork in over 50 locations throughout Northeast; studio buildings, art galleries, home studios, and local businesses who show their support by showcasing local artists. Continue reading
Open Streets MPLS
StandardOpen Streets MPLS announced their 2015 schedule and although I know it’s extremely early, especially since we just got dumped on with a random snow storm, I need reminders like this to realize that spring, is in fact, here.
Open Streets MPLS is the brainchild of the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition and was organized with the intent of allowing the people of Minneapolis to experience their city on non-motorized wheels.
If you don’t have a bike this would be a great time to check out the Nice Ride MN program, or participate the old fashioned way; on foot. Continue reading
514 Studios
Standard514 Studios is a gorgeous photography studio that doubles as an event site located in the Minneapolis Warehouse District.
514 hosted the Minneapolis Media Institute Art & Music Exhibit last month and I fell in love with the exposed brick walls, giant ceilings, and overall rustic vibe.
Hipster Hack’s Best of 2014
StandardI’ve tried a bunch of amazing foods, drinks, and places this year, so I wanted to share my Top 6 (I couldn’t make myself limit it to 5!) choices for the Best of 2014!
6. The Vegas Lounge
It’s probably not fair to call this a best of 2014, because it wasn’t new to me this year, but any Hipster “Best Of” list just feels immoral without the inclusion of this gem. Northeast really does have some of the most amazing places.
5. Dangerous Man – Chocolate Milk Stout
I’ve never had a beer that tasted like childhood before. This beer makes Peter Pan Syndrome acceptable and for that it receives no less than a high5, wink, and awkward two step with a little twist. Continue reading
Minneapolis Media Institute Art & Music Exhibit
StandardSimilar to the layout of Art-A-Whirl, Minneapolis Media Institute will be putting on an Art & Music Exhibit at 514 Studios in Downtown Minneapolis on December 19th. This is an event I’ve been helping to plan for the last couple months with some really great students and coworkers, and it’s going to be a great way for the art and music community to see what talent is on the horizon.
I’m constantly blown away by the art the students at this school create and think this is an event you shouldn’t miss.
This is a free, all ages event. Doors open at 4pm and music starts at 5pm. Continue reading
Dangerous Man Brewing Co. | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardDangerous Man Brewing Co has been at the top of my brewery list for a while, because I’ve been hearing such amazing things. I’m pleased to report that it lived up to the hipster hype.
Drinks:
We went to Dangerous Man for girls night and between us had the Oktoberfest, Chocolate Milk Stout, and Kolsch. Nowhere near the whole selection, but it was a good start! Continue reading
Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit Oktoberfest | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardGasthof zur Gemutlichkeit Oktoberfest has come and gone. Some friends and I made it there this last Saturday, which happened to be the last day of Oktoberfest this year.
In order to eat or drink you needed to buy tokens. Tokens which are $5 a piece.
Everything was also cash only, so if you want to avoid a long ATM line and a $3 ATM fee, I would suggest making a pit stop for cash on the way. Continue reading
